Wishmaster 3: Devil Stone
The Plot
The Wishmaster (Djinn) is set free yet again by another young woman... yet again. The Djinn seeks to set his race free to roam the earth by granting 3 wishes to the woman that set him free.
The Movie
Since I enjoyed the previous Wishmaster films, I was eager to set my eyes onto this movie. I had heard how the actor responsible for the Djinn's evilness had been replaced by someone else but I still wanted to see the movie. After viewing it I had felt robbed but for different reasons. John Novak, who is the new Djinn portrayed his character rather well in my opinion but we never got to see him all that much on screen. Instead we see him in his human form for pretty much the entire film. Most actors were hardly believable in their roles as it looked like this was their first film (maybe it was, I really should check that out). If you're going to make a serious horror movie that still seems far-fetched, you'd better get yourself some damn good actors.
Most of the movie is filled with a chase which never really gains interest. Perhaps the film would have been better for a lot of people if they had seen more of the Djinn in his true form but from what I hear, most people disliked Novak's performance as the Djinn anyways. Perhaps they would have liked him more if he had not been compared to Andrew Divoff (the former Djinn actor).
All in all, if I was to recommend this to anyone, I would probably be attacked by an angry mob of horror fans, wanting me dead for wasting their time. So I think I won't recommend it, just skip to part 4 which is much better. Oops, most people hate that too, I'd better run!
The DVD
Not much to say about this release. The transfer is decent but there are no extras unless you count a bunch of trailers to be something special. Personally, I think it's a cheap way of getting people to think they're getting more than nothing. It is better than nothing but why waste your time to see something you can watch when you rent any video out from your local shop? Especially when the trailers are of Soulkeeper, New Best Friend and Dirty Deeds.
