Pieces
The Plot
A deranged psychopath is on a killing spree at a college campus. Just who's the killer? Though the real mystery is what the killer is doing with the missing pieces of the victim's bodies.
The Movie
This movie is pretty bad. "Pieces" is about as "B" as they come. The acting is simply atrocious, the dubbing is even worse (if that's even possible). The story and dialogue are absolutely ridiculous, not to mention nonsensical. There's tons of blood, and plenty of nudity. Even an ending that is both irrational and silly. Yes sir, it has all the necessary ingredients to make a complete "B" movie. However, that didn't keep me from at least enjoying it, if just a little.
I saw this DVD at a really cheap price and had even heard of it before; I decided that it was worth a watch. Immediately upon watching it, I knew the film wasn't going to blow me away, and it didn't (though at the cost, what was I to expect?). However, I must say that even for a really crappy "B" flick, there were some strong points. First off, the gore was actually pretty good (at least considering the quality of movie). Also the lack of music (though probably not purposefully) adds to the creepiness, and when they do play music it works quite well to create an intense mood. Plus I wonder if this wasn't the precursor to the much better, yet similar, film "May"; just a thought.
Also, while I still claim the story is completely absurd, it still works. Throughout the film you really aren't sure who's the killer, and they do a good job of leading you in the wrong direction. Though they do give away who it is far too early in the film, in my opinion anyway.
All in all, this movie still sucks. This is a risk for anyone who's not particularly a pretty hardcore fan, or specifically into "B" movies. Though I must say this film was somewhat entertaining, even considering how bad it was.
The DVD
The Diamond Entertainment release is fittingly pretty bad. The transfers are laughable, especially on the visual end (though I have seen worse). The extras are too quite bad. We get a promotional feature, which basically just shows us other Diamond Entertainment releases. Also included is a boring section with fun facts and bios.
All in all the DVD extras here are quite lame.
