Review Quote
"Gary Jones is the master of dumb but fun films. With his more recent film,
Spiders, he followed in the same footsteps that he took making this cheesy
creature feature from 1994. And believe me, both are basically the same, but
with different insects."

The Plot
When a UFO crashes and mosquitoes drink the blood of the dead aliens, they
become the size of dogs and begin searching for human victims. Now only a
handful of survivors can defeat them and prevent humanity from being sucked dry!
The Movie
Gary Jones is the master of dumb but fun films. With his more recent film,
Spiders, he followed in the same footsteps that he took making this cheesy
creature feature from 1994. And believe me, both are basically the same, but
with different insects.
The acting is so horrible it’s actually funny how un-godly bad these actors are.
Gunnar Hansen doesn’t really do anything but cut up mosquitoes with a chainsaw
or shoot them with shotguns, but damn, he does it well. The other actors are
extremely forgettable or sadly remembered for more humorous reasons. The actor
who played Junior was so awful, but let me tell you, he cracked me up, whether
it be his distorted facial expressions (watch the scene where he first sees the
girl in slow mo), wooden acting (“Help... help.”), or hilarious screams (“Shoot
the Bug!”). Yes, if you haven’t guessed it by now, Mosquito is of the so bad
it’s good variety.
The FX aren’t bad. Some Harryhausen-lite stop motion was decent, and the puppets
are okay. But in some of the scenes, the mosquitoes appear to be drawn on the
film with a crayon. The directing is pedestrian at best, too. But I’ll be damned
if I tell you I didn’t enjoy Mosquito. It certainly never gets boring, and is
sure to entertain both Creature Feature fans and Cheese fans alike.
Is Mosquito a bad movie? By all means, yes. Is Mosquito entertaining? Hell yes.
The DVD
Jeez, we get absolutely nothing. The only menus are Scene Selection menus (no
main menu) and the sound isn’t very good. The picture looks like a videotape,
too. Plus, it comes in a dreaded snap case.
