The Plot
Five young people answer a personal ad to stay in a secluded lodge to make an "experimental movie". Amongst these participants is Kyra, a young woman who happens to be a gifted artist and also suffers from some slight mental troubles. The seemingly utopian house soon becomes a nightmare as a disfigured stalker begins to attack them. The situation becomes more troublesome after the house mysteriously seals itself shut and the killings seem to emulate Kyra's disturbing artwork...Is there another dark force at work here?

The Movie
Many people seem to dislike this film and I personnaly cannot figure it out. What we have here is one of the creepiest and brutal slasher films I've seen in a while. So many elements made this a difficult movie to sit through and I got chills more than once. First off must discuss the score. The theme for this film is honestly the most haunting and erie piece of work I've heard since the original "Halloween" theme. t's simply awe-inspiring and a shame that it only really appears about twice in the movie. Aside from the theme, horror fans will more than likely notice a few similarities (ripoffs or homages?) to Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Cube, HellRaiser, The Ring and House on Haunted Hill. Most of this is noticable via protagonist Kyra's hallucinagenic episodes. These spine-tingling sequences effectivley blur the line between fantasy and reality (a la Nightmare on Elm Street) making you question what is real and what is simply a manifestation of this troubled girl's mind. During these "episodes" you'll see all sorts of disturbing images, especially the "faceless" (you'll see)....they just gave me chills.

Another element I appreciated from this film was the brutality and creativity of the kills. They are surprisingly gory and shown without holding back at all. There are also scenes of self inflicted torture not for the weak of heart! The presence of booby traps in the house add to the tension and after a few of Kyra's hallucinations you'll begin to wonder just who or what is really killing everyone. Adding further to the dream like quality of the film are some extremely bizarre lighting effects and very creepy audio effects. The movie does have it's cons, mainly what one would expect from a low budget film. Some cliched and predictable characters and dialouge hamper the experience a tad. Also the acting is bad, but what did you expect? Overall, I loved and respected this movie for the sheer fact that it is gutsy and brutal. I haven't cringed during a movie for quite some time but this one made me shudder more than once. See it for the clever concepts and awesome kills and spooky hallucination sequences. Don't see it for respectable acting or a sensible ending ( I'm still scratching my head over it).

A strange and dark film that definetly should not be missed. (PS Kolobos is Greek for Mutilated)

The DVD
The good parts: The menu, although motionless, presents a very cool design and makes good use of the color red! Also the navigation icons are in the form of Razorblades and buzzsaws so that's pretty clever. and the film's incredibly cool theme loops over the menu! Other than that,. this one reminded me of the Bad Moon DVD...The features consist solely of cast bios ( one, count em, one...for Amy Weber) and a trailer with an awful tagline..."When you're dead, no one can hear you scream!" What the hell does that mean?

Although the DVD leaves something to be desired, the movie is interesting and intense enough to be well worth it. And at US10$ new, there's no reason not to track this one down!
