Gothika
The Plot
After crashing her car one night on the way home from work, Dr. Miranda
Grey, wakes up in the Woodward Penitentiary for Women. The place
she used to work at. She awakens to find out that she has been
accused of brutally murdering her husband, although she has no memory
of the event. She's also being haunted by a ghostly apparition of
a young girl. Now Dr. Grey has to fight to keep her sanity and to
convince everyone else that she is innocent.
The Movie
Gothika starts off slow, and remains fairly slow throughout the movie.
At the end the film finally picks up just a little. That's the one
thing that I didn't like about this movie.
The acting was pretty decent. Halle Berry did a nice job of playing
Dr. Grey. I'm not really a big fan of Robert Downey Jr. but he did
fairly well. John Carroll Lynch as the sheriff was a pleasent
surprise.
Mathieu Kassovitz does a pretty good directing this flick. There are
some neat little shots. Although this movie tended to run a little
slow for me, I don't really blame Kassovitz for that. Perhaps the
screenplay could have been better written? I don't know.
The DVD
Well there is nothing special about this disc. All you get are some
scene selections, a music video for the song "Behind Blue Eyes" by
Limp Bizkit, and a commentary by the Director and Director of
Photography. You also get a trailer.
So if you would like to get this DVD, I would suggest just renting it
first and see how you like it.
