Review Quote
"It's not really that scary of a movie and it is rather bloodless and very slow which might put off some of the more ravenous horror fans. But it does have an intriguing plot and good acting and good music as well."

The Plot
The Duncans were a simple, happy family. That is, until an untimely accident took the life of their 8-yead old son Adam. Distraught and heartbroken, they accept an odd offer from a mysterious scientist. Adam is reborn through the wonders of cloning...unfortunetly not all is well. Once the new Adam surpasses the age in which the original died, he begins to exhibit strang behavior. Deadly behavior...
The Movie
This movie has recieved bad reviews from virtually everyone who has seen it. I suppose I can understand it since the movie might be way too slow-moving for most movie-goers and the scares are hit-or-miss. Also, the ending is anti-climatic and not really much happens. I however found this film enjoyable.
The family reminds me of the one in Poltergeist. Kinnear and Romijn portray very loving and convincing parents and spouses. They are both good actors and have strong emotional performances. Although they delve into melodrama on occasion, it doesn't really dampen the illusion. De Niro is good as well as the scientist, Dr. Wells. But something seemed off about his character that I can't quite grasp. The musical score is excellent too and fits perfectly with the film's eerie feel.
It's not really that scary of a movie and it is rather bloodless and very slow which might put off some of the more ravenous horror fans. But it does have an intriguing plot and good acting and good music as well. I doubt very many people will enjoy this film (I suppose I'm already right, based on what 've heard from others) but I found it to be a tense, dramatic thriller that non-horror fans can enjoy too. Recommended but rent before you even consider buying!
The DVD
The DVD really isn't that bad. The menus are very well-designed with good transitions and that cool eerie score. The features are decent enough. There is a grand total of four different endings! Surprising that they didn't consider any of these and stuck with the stinker of an ending it currently has. The storyboards are about what you'd expect and are interesting enough if you're into that kind of thing. Also included is the standard commentary track with Director Nick Hamm and...Director of Photography Kramer Morgenthau. Odd choice for a commentator. The lack of any "making-of" featurettes is disapointing but oh well.
A decent DVD.
