Review Quote
"This is definetly not a film for everybody. It is packed with foul language and derogatory terms aimed at Japanese, homosexual and mentally handicapped people. The whole thing has this dirty, gritty feel that feels just like a Tarantino and Rodriguez film. The dialouge is fantastic and I loved the whole underlying tone of good vs. evil. This enriches the movie and gives it some credibility!"

The Plot
The Gecko Brothers are two notorious criminals on the run through Texas. Along the way, they take a traveling family as hostage and force them to escort them to a trashy bar in rural Mexico for a rendezvous. Unfortunetly for the Geckos and the Fuller family, this bar is not for normal people...but for something far worse.
The Movie
What a cool movie. This film entertained me beginning to end, a very rare occurence. Basically the film begins it's first half as a crime/action film involving the trials of the foul-mouthed Gecko Brothers. The movie is already invloving and entertaining thanks in part to great acting by all of the main characters. But about an hour into the film, all hell breaks loose and an overly gory horror flick breaks loose! You'd have never known this is a vampire film until the second half and with the first half being so good on it's own, this seems like an added bonus to gorehounds like myself!

The movie is insanely violent and gore-drenched. The transformations are creative and the weapons used to combat the vampiric forces are really cool. From Castlevania-style whip attacks, holy water squirt guns, crucifix etched bullets, jackhammer stakes and even...crotch guns! It all makes for fun, crimson covered times and the film never lets up. The only real downfall of the film is it's lack of a real audience. THose who want a straight up action film will enjoy the first half but be put off by the carnage of the second. Horror fans will love the vampire antics but may not be satisfied with sitting through the first hour of the film. But for those with mixed tastes, you can't go wrong with this, one of the most entertaining and gory films I've seen.
The DVD
The standard DVD is a slight disappointment. The only features are the trailers for the film. they are both pretty good, but the "teaser" is really just an uncut "Restricted" edition of the original trailer. Aside from that, we do have top notch visual and audio presentation which improves the overall deal. There is a Collector's Edition available with many, many supplemental features, but I was unfortunetly unable to procure it. As it stands, purchase the Collector's Edition and leave the standard edition for the bargain bin.
