Fright Night

The Plot
Charley is a normal, everyday teenager. But one night, he sees his new next door neighbor, Jerry Dandridge, become a vampire and attack a hooker while making love to her. Charley is suddenly in danger, for Dandridge knows what he knows, and he’ll do anything to kill him.

The Movie
This is a great horror film in many ways. A movie like this simply isn’t made anymore. Made during the horror hay day of the 80s, Fright Night stands above most of the other offerings of the time.

Holland’s direction and script work well and have a great balance of horror and comedy. Roddy McDowall is perfect as Peter Vincent, the host of a TV Show, Fright Night, who used to play a Van Helsing type character in movies. When he is thrust into the events, he is unsure of himself, but he realizes he must become the character he’s played. Ragsdale is believable as Charley and works well in his part. And, of course, Chris Sarandon as the main antagonist is perfect in his role, and brings a perfect blend of class and horror to the role.

The Special Effects are outstanding as well. Transformations and Creature Effects look marvelous. Makeup is also very good, especially the Cross Burned Forehead. Fright Night is an entertaining vampire flick that goes by the rules and delivers what horror fans want in a big way.

The DVD
A measly trailer. Yawn.
