Review Quote
"I never felt scared in the film. I knew who was going to die. I know how famous the film is,
but this is not good stuff. This is nothing really special, folks. Just overrated fodder."

The Plot
The seemingly always ill fated Camp Crystal Lake is being reopened with new
consolers. But they begin to be murdered, one by one.
The Movie
Well, this series is probably one of the most famous in the horror genre. But
believe me, this film doesn't deserve its praise.
First of all, the characters are ordinary and stupid teenagers. I thought The
House by the Cemetery had a lot of stupid character moves, but wait 'till you
see the final survivor's confrontations with the killer. The survivor has at
least 3 chances to kill the killer easily while the killer is knocked out, but
instead runs. Now THAT's frustrating to watch. The characters are your normal
idiot teenagers. The acting isn't horrible but isn't great either. Betsy Palmer
is beyond hammy in her performance, but she's entertaining at least. The rest
are bland.
The atmosphere is one of the strong points. I really liked the stormy weather
summer camp atmosphere. It felt isolated and helped the film. The kills are also
very well done special effects wise but aren't very effective. The FX work also
helps the film, as does a great ending sequence that all horror fans surely
know. The direction is nothing really memorable and feels very pedestrian to say
the least.
The movie is also dragged out and dull, with the first half mostly involving
merely kids fooling around. And the suspense was absolutely absent. I never felt
scared in the film. I knew who was going to die. I know how famous the film is,
but this is not good stuff. This is nothing really special, folks. Just
overrated fodder.
The DVD
There is nothing good about the DVD, really. The lone feature is a single
theatrical trailer. If that's a feature to get excited over, I could have a wild
time staring at the wall.
