Review Quote
"Every scene I was supposed to laugh at I simply shook my head. Every time I was
supposed to be scared I was bored. The scares are vain attempts to recapture the
originals frights, but just fall in the same old area. We’ve seen this before in
Evil Dead, people!"

The Plot
Ash, the hero from Evil Dead, is still in a cabin and still fighting the Evil
Dead. Things change when Professor Knowby’s daughter shows up with some others
looking for him.
The Movie
Sequel? More like a poor remake.
After watching the ultra classic Evil Dead, I went out a day after and sought
out the nearest copy of Raimi’s sequel, which was raved as much as the original.
Even more. After I viewed it, I was tremendously disappointed. All the horror
from Evil Dead and the humor from Army of Darkness were gone, replaced with
truly pitiful attempts at both.
Every scene I was supposed to laugh at I simply shook my head. Every time I was
supposed to be scared I was bored. The scares are vain attempts to recapture the
originals frights, but just fall in the same old area. We’ve seen this before in
Evil Dead, people! The Stop Motion animation Linda would’ve been fine if it
wasn’t so damn stupid. I love stop motion animation, but the whole scene stunk!
Army of Darkness was all stupid humor, but Army of Darkness’s humor actually
worked, and, while Army of Darkness let itself dwell in the campy zone, Evil
Dead 2 tries to be both campy funny and scary. It accomplishes neither.
However, Bruce Campbell is still good here but the rest of the players are
un-interesting and add absolutely nothing. The FX is fine but nothing fantastic.
The film does offer some mediocre adventure, but nothing really great. The duel
between Ash and the monster Henrietta is the high point of the film. But there’s
nothing to really recommend, unless you’re a die hard Evil Dead fan. Chances are
you’ll like it more than I did.
The DVD
This is a pretty good DVD. There’s an audio commentary with Campbell and Raimi
among others and a 30 minute documentary called “The Gore the Merrier.” There’s
also a still gallery and a trailer for the film and the Evil Dead videogame.
Some Bios are also included. I’d suggest the DVD to anyone who likes the film,
but that’s not me.
