A Nightmare On Elm Street
The Plot
Some teens are having horribly scary nightmares. However, when
those same teens end up dead, some begin to sense something truly frightening is
happening.
The Movie
Wes Craven is one of the true masters of horror. Not only is he a
great director, but his true mastery comes with his stories. "A Nightmare on
Elm Street" is a perfect example of this. Knowing the premise of this film
alone, comes a certain interest.
The movie is all about atmosphere. The music, the sets, the lighting: it all
comes together to create one of those most tense films ever. The effects are
another hallmark of this film. They are plentiful and well done.
One of best parts of this movie is the continual transition from the real to
the dream world, which eventually becomes a pretty fuzzy line, and leaves you
constantly wondering what is and isn't a dream. Which just goes to help create
that intenseness of the film.
The DVD
The picture transfer and sound are both of the utmost in quality.
The extras on the other hand leave something to be desired. There's a great
audio commentary with Wes Craven, Heather Lagenkamp, and John Saxon. As usual
with Craven, he remembers everything, and has loads of interesting information to
provide. Also included is theatrical trailer, some additional DVD-Rom extras;
like the ability to read the screenplay, and a trivia game. Overall the DVD is
just OK.
