REVIEW
Oh how I've been dying to see this new slasher! First of all, it's a
foreign slasher, South African actually, and we all know how great foreign
slashers usually are. Second of all, the mask is killer! Most original
mask I've seen in a couple of years actually. Third of all, the poster
for the Swedish cinema release rocked! You can see it at the end of this
review. What I expected from this movie was after having watched the
trailer and reading the plot was basically that I thought it was a great
Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets the 20th century movie. Well, I have to
say that I made a big mistake. This is nothing near The Texas Chainsaw
Massacre, it doesn't even resemble to it. This is just another teenage
slashermovie, but hang on, it's on a farm! I actually kind of liked this
high budget looking slasher, of course not as much as Shredder and Wishcraft
but damn close! I would probably have liked it better if just about all
the killings wouldn't have been off screen... well, they weren't really off-
screen, but you didn't get to see people die, just the killer swinging his
scythe and some pretty cool slashing sound effects. Another thing, this
movie not only copied from modern slashermovies, but also movies like
Children Of The Corn (especially Children Of The Corn 5) and Joy Ride.

The entire cast is top notch for a slasherflick, I wish we would have
seen more of James O'Shea (playing Mac) though, he was a great actor and
had a big role in the movie, but still, it kind of felt as if he was
left out during the middle part of the movie. I liked the fact that all
the actors were American looking, if not totally American and that all the
actors spoke English, which helped a lot. The directing is nothing
special at all, still it does look like a high budget movie, well, you
know, Jason X high, and the director Neal Sundström has some really
beautiful shots of the house, which looked really cool. Other than that,
the directing was nothing memorable at all.

This is the second South African horror movie I've seen, the other one
was called Head Hunter and was pure crap! This is a definite step up
from Head Hunter, but still, this is nothing more than your average
slasher, which I do recommend any slasherfan to see. After the first
20 minutes of the movie I thought to myself, oh this is so going to get
a full five stars, but I should never have thought that because after
that, it just got worse and worse. It's unfortunate for movies like this
that they lose so much after a while, with a better use of soundtrack,
some more gore, and at least a few onscreen killings, this would probably
have been at least a 4 star:er, but I'm sorry Africa, this is not getting
a higher rating than 3 of me.

GORE
This is so unbelievable goreless, a total lack of gore is what this movie
is, I thought that I was up for a gore filled slasherfest but boy was I
wrong. At least I did get to see a guy get a scythe through his stomach.

SOUNDTRACK
The soundtrack tries very hard to be modern and actually works quite well
on all the levels, we get a lot of rock and pop in the movie. We also get
a very cool fast playing drummy tune which was great in the first scene,
but it was used in almost every killing scene! And the use of it was poor
aswell, they just made it silent now and then and then started it again,
what's that all about, and it never changed, couldn't they have like added
some freaky noises to the drums or something?

BOTTOM LINE
This is definitely not a must, but a totally ok rent for any fan of the genre.
I would have to say that I was disappointed in this movie, so now that I have
given you low expectations for it, perhaps you will like it more than I did,
as I had obviously way too high expectations.
