PUPHEDZ:
THE TATTLE-TALE HEART

PLOT
This is the puphedz take on Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell Tale Heart".
A man is disturbed by the man whom he lives with as he has a freakish
eye that keeps on haunting him. So the young man decides that there's
nothing left to do but to kill the old man, but will he ever succeed
or does the old man plan to annoy him for the rest of his life?
REVIEW
This is the first movie to come from puphedz productions, I just
hope that the next one will be better as I didn't like this at all.
I usually love these short animated horrorcomedy's, but this didn't
even make me laugh once. The whole idea was pretty dull and it
looked really poor. The animation was kind of good but it never
got that movie feeling like for example Frankenthumb did. However,
if another puphedz movie will be made I am not one of those who's
going to watch it as this film made me realise that puppets are
not made for horrorcomedy animation purposes.
The animation was quite rubbish but it could definitely have been
worse. The directing was made by Jurgen Heimann who made special
effects for movies like Puppet Master 4 & 5 (surprising huh?).
He was also involved with Gore Verbinski's The Ring remake but
you really can't tell by the way he made this. I say, stick to
real horror and don't make animated movies unless you know how
to make them look really good.
There's only one thing about the movie that appealed me, and that
was the soundtrack. This wouldn't have gotten one single star if
it wasn't for the soundtrack. I feel really bad giving such a bad
review to a director’s debute movie, which he obviously put a lot
of work in creating, but I have to tell you what I thought, and
I just didn't like it at all. I failed to see the fun part in
this and while others might enjoy it more than I did, I know that
this is nothing that I will be sitting through again. Thank god
it was only half an hour long.
GORE
We get some puppet gore, a severed head and a lot of puppet blood
splatter to fill your screen up. I saw the long version of this,
which is included on the DVD, so I don't know how much gore there
is in the shorter version.
SOUNDTRACK
As I said before, this was the only part in the movie that I
actually liked. The soundtrack was very cartoonish and very made
for a surround system, which I loved. We get a loony take on
Grieg's Morning Mood and the rest is just very well put together.
BOTTOM LINE
This was to me a very disappointing movie as I had expected a
somewhat funny animated horrorparody... Well, it was an animated
horrorparody... it just wasn't funny, or good for that matter
and I can't give this more than one star for having an incredibly
nice soundtrack. If you really need to watch a wooden puppet movie,
rent Disney's Pinocchio instead.
