THONG
PLOT
In the jungles of Thailand, a small village is terrorized by a giant
crocodile. But what makes the crocodile even more dangerous is that
it can transform into human shape whenever it wants. Now it's up to
Krai Thong to save the village from the beast before there's no one
left to save...
REVIEW
I guess my expectations for this movie was way to high. But you
expect an at least descent movie when the DVD cover rules and the
plot sounds fairly original. But instead, it felt as if I was watching
the very bad short movie included in the Asian movie Three, called
The Wheel. The effects are plain rubbish and the discovery channel
has better CGI-effects than this did. Oh and of course it rips off
from Crocodile, Blood Surf, Lake Placid and all kinds of other
creature horrormovies, but it also rips off the bible in one scene!
Now that's a first, I'm sure.
For once in an Asian horrormovie, the acting isn't all that great.
Sure, some actors are strong, but there are more bad actors than
good ones in this movie. The directing is great and really manages
to create that high budget looks for the movie. Unfortunately, the
director of this movie must've loved shaky and annoying scenes as
there are plenty of them, they're blurry, hard to watch and not
gentle to your eyes at all.
Krai Thong is one of those movies that try to be too many things at
once. You never knew whether this was trying to be a comedy, a
parody, a horrormovie, an action flick, an erotic thriller or a
romantic drama. The only thing funny in my opinion about this movie
was the incredibly lousy subtitling, some examples: 'How about
let's have some fun' and 'I couldn't even felt asleep'. Oh and by
the way, in my opinion Krai Thong is a real slut and has sex with
every girl he meets so he didn't work as a hero at all for me.
GORE
There is some gore indeed, too bad that all gore scenes are shot
in the dark so you can't tell that there is any gore at all. Anyway,
we do get an arm bit off, as usual in killer creature movies, also
we get a head ripped off ones body and also a man get cut in half
by the crocodiles tail I think.
SOUNDTRACK
Now this is original! We actually get some Asian flute music and
a bit later the flute music comes back... but this time with some
pop background and some piano playing aswell. As there are many
sex scenes we get some porno mood music and we finish off with some
Jaws inspired music.
BOTTOM LINE
I was really disappointed by this movie, it had absolutely nothing
going for it. The DVD cover was way cool though so I don't regret
buying this movie as it will look good in my shelf. But don't buy
this movie for anything else but the cover as this is one of those
classic "brilliant cover, awful movie" cases.
