I
WAS A TEENAGE INTELLECTUAL

PLOT
Pavel gets bitten by an intellectual one night as he is getting some
new movies for him and his girlfriend to watch. Eva, his girlfriend,
hasn't got the slightest idea of what's going on and wants her old
Pavel back, which is easier said than done...
REVIEW
I Was A Teenage Intellectual is really hard to find as it never got
a DVD or video release anywhere in the world. It's a 16 minute short
horrorcomedy from the Czech republic, first Czech movie I've ever
seen actually. The story is cool and entertaining, the acting is...
well, it isn't bad, so I guess it's quite average, the directing is
good, considering it was never really released except for a Czech
VCD release which was included in some magazine back in 1999.
I was lucky enough to see an English subtitled version, this movie
kind of needs its dialogues to make any sense. The chief intellectual
looks really creepy and it looks as if he's the leader of a satanic
cult or something like that, which I think is the meaning. This movie
really shows how much you should fear intellectuals, well in a funny
non-serious way. It opens with a man sitting in a library or something,
telling us that intellectuals really do exist and that they could be
sitting right next to you right now, you get the drift?
The best thing about the movie has to be the ending, oh how I love the
ending, totally unexpected and really entertaining. I've watched this
movie, 20 something times now, and I just never seem to be able to get
enough of it, it is one hell of a movie. If you live in the Czech
republic, I suggest that you track this sucker down immediately.
GORE
This is a non-gory movie really, all we get is a pen in the head, some
remote control stabbings in stomach and an exploding head (which looks
totally fake by the way).
SOUNDTRACK
This movie has a great theme track which plays during most of the movie,
just in different versions, sometimes it's a fast-moving version with
lots of basses, sometimes it's a slow, creepy version.
BOTTOM LINE
If you are able to find this, see it! It shouldn't be too hard to find if
you live in Poland or the Czech republic.
