IDENTITY

PLOT
Ten strangers are forced to check in at a small motel when the road
gets flooded during a terrible storm. As the rain lashes down outside,
the strangers take the time to get to know eachother. When a woman
turns up dead, the nine people left have to find out who's the killer
before the killer gets another victim.
REVIEW
Identity is one of those movies that I have been waiting for before
most people even knew of it. Only, when I first found out about this
movie, I knew it under the title I.D. I'm glad they changed that non-
catchy title. When all the sites started giving it rave reviews and
everyone who had seen it seemed to love it, I just had to check it
out. I was kind of disappointed when I realised that I wasn't in
for a horror filled slasher, but a Hitchcocky thriller which felt so
unoriginal. I stated on the site a while ago that I thought that
this might bring slashers back onto the big screen, but I shouted
much too fast, this isn't a slasher at all, this is more like an
April Fool's Day tease that leads to nowhere.
Director James Mangold has improved a lot since his cheesy romantic
Meg Ryan comedy 'Kate & Leopold'. The atmosphere is nice and creepy
and everyone at the cinema where holding their breaths like non-
stop because they didn't want to miss anything. The acting is also
top notch, with a very talented cast which must've caught a cold
after making this movie since they're out running in the rain through
most of the movie. A face that was in particularly nice to see again
was Clea DuVall. She was awesome in The Faculty and let's face it,
she was the only good thing in the terrible action/horror/unintentional
comedy "Ghosts Of Mars".
Unfortunately, excellent directing and top-notch acting doesn't help
this movie one bit. I actually thought that the plot was quite good
and the suspense was high at many places in the movie but what
could've been an excellent horror thriller was ruined by some short
scenes, which should not have been there. At the end I just felt as
if I had wasted two hours of my life since the so called twists
were so damn stupid and annoying. Besides, after 50 minutes I had
the killer totally figured out so I wasn't surprised either.
GORE
There is a fair amount of gore here I guess. Nothing that impressed
me but a very cool decapitated head, that scene made the whole movie
worth watching.
SOUNDTRACK
Creepy stuff here. The soundtrack was excellent, best one I've seen
in a movie for a long time, very timeless aswell so it won't feel old
in ten years. We get some cool rock music mainly besides the creepy
stuff. I swear, it actually felt like watching an old classic horrormovie,
besides for those few short scenes, which I despised so much.
BOTTOM LINE
This movie has to be seen on the big screen if you really want to
enjoy it. I didn't think it lived up to my expectations at all even
if it was a pretty good movie. It definitely had the potentials to
get five stars but then it would need some serious cutting here and
there, who knows, maybe I'll try to release a Special Cut Edition DVD
here on slasherpool, haha, I wish.
