FATAL PULSE

PLOT
A killer is killing a group of co-eds, Jeff is the main suspect
after he was seen fighting with Stephanie minutes before she is
murdered. Turns out Jeff is trying to get back with his old
girlfriend Lisa but Brad is also after Lisa’s heart. As the bodies
pile up Jeff decides to find the killer himself and prove his
innocence, but Brad is trying to prove Jeff guilty and win the
hand of Lisa.

REVIEW
This is one cheesy slasher movie that throws and unbelievable
love story into the mix. The movie itself is pretty bad but manages
to throw enough good ideas at us to save it from getting a
one star rating.

Acting wise the movie is pretty weak, everyone seems to spit out
there lines, it doesn’t help that the dialog itself is pretty
damn weak and cheesy. No one really comes off as believable.
Only Michelle McCormick gives it her all as the lead girl Lisa.

The plot itself is pretty thin, someone is killing off girls living
in a sorority house, that’s the main slasher plot, it doesn’t seem
to go anywhere else other then that, not even when the killer is
revealed. The other plot involving Lisa, Jeff and Brad isn’t very
interesting and highly unbelievable, one scene Lisa and Jeff are
in love, the next they are at each others throats also Brad goes
missing for half the movie. We also have a character named Mark who
tries to help Jeff out who is a joker, while I did laugh at him at
a few times he mainly comes off as annoying.

The killings themselves aren’t really very interesting, they tried
to be a little creative but just turned out stupid (One girl have
her throat cut by a record of all things), they are also very bloodless.
I counted seven dead killings, this body count is criminally low
for a slasher movie, to keep an audience interested to need to have
at least twelve or thirteen kills, under that a movie tends to drag.
But some other movies at least manage to give us a good plot and
nice dialog and a good plot between the killings so it doesn’t
drag so much.

On the upside the movie does tend to squeeze out the odd suspenseful
moment like the last fifteen minutes, also one or two of the deaths
manage to have a nice suspenseful build up. Also one scene had me
rolling on the floor laughing, it involves Jeff being chased by a
gang lead by Brad who believe him to be the killer, the get him and
start beating the shit out of him, suddenly his best friend Mark shows
up dressed like a super hero, the gang decide to go over and beat
the crap out of Mark instead. Also there is quite a bit of T&A on
show here, for some reason never explained the killer likes to rip
the tops off each girl before doing them in.

The direction itself is ok, nothing really special, mainly point
and shoot the whole time but it gets the job done, manages to do
all right with a lousy script.

GORE
Not much, almost all the deaths are rather bloodless, we get a
strangling, drowning, electrocution, suffocation and a rather fake
looking cut throat.

SOUNDTRACK
The sound track does nothing for the movie, it’s loud and bad, and
it tries to tell us how to feel and doesn’t do anything for the suspense.

BOTTOM LINE
A poorly played out slasher movie which is rather boring for most
part but manages to throw in enough good ideas to save it from
being a total waste.
