DRIVE IN

PLOT
A fat, deranged, retarded, psychotic, killer teenager who lives
close to a horror drive in theatre has just escaped and is now
killing the horny teenagers at the drive in.

REVIEW

When I sat down to watch this I had only heard really bad things
about this, so of course, I expected it to be really poor. Well,
it turned out to be bad, but not as bad as people had made it out
to be. At some points I actually thought it was quite average.
Clearly the writer of this movie can't have been very imaginative
as I would guess that about 10 minutes of this movie was just
us getting to see other Troma productions showing on the drive in.

I was surprised to see that the acting wasn't that bad, sure, the
lead actress, Jenny (Deshja Driggs), screams a lot, but on the
other hand, wouldn't you? The acting is a mixed bag, some of the
actors/actresses are actually really good, while others are just
plain crap (for example the woman playing the mother of deranged
psycho teen Billy). The directing is average, not too shabby, I
still have to complain about the fact that we got to see too much
of other horrormovies, I thought that was very uncreative.

Definitely not as bad as the rumour that it has gotten, but still,
it was far from good. The cover totally had me fooled though, I
was almost certain that the killer would be a 20 something psycho
escaped from a mental hospital or something, and well, he was 20
something, but he played a 13 year old boy. This was produced by
MTI video, and we all know that they go along with Dead Alive,
Tempe, Full Moon and Troma when it comes to movies, but what I
didn't understand was why Troma was involved in this movie and
still didn't release it? It can't have been because the movie was
too bad, because it's better than most crap Troma releases. I'm
thinking that this movie might even deserve three stars, but as
we get to see clips from movies like 'Beware Children At Play',
'Terror Firmer' and 'Monster In The Closet' I can't give this
more than two stars as I hate all of the movies that they showed
clips from. Descent attempt for a fat psycho slasher though.

GORE
There are some blood splatter and some stabbings with various
weapons, but I don't feel as if I need to go any further in
this area as the killings are rather harmless and would fit more
in a PG-13 movie than in an R-rated movie. I guess that's why
they decided to keep it NR, not to make it look totally crap.

SOUNDTRACK
Nothing special here, some drums and some bass guitar and some
strings, nothing we haven’t heard before in these low budget
backwoods slashers (even if this wasn't exactly a backwoods
slasher, it sure as hell felt like one, copying a lot from movies
like Just Before Dawn and Madman).

BOTTOM LINE
Way underrated, but still pretty bad slasher, which kept me from
falling asleep for an hour and a half. That's a pretty good job
considering that I watched this movie at 2 A.M. There are many
bad slashers out there and this is one of them, but it still
has something going for it, I don't know what, I just know
that it had my interest through the entire movie. If I were you,
I wouldn't exactly go buy this, nor rent it for that matter,
but if it went on TV, I would definitely give it a watch, if you
like slashers anyway.
