DOLLY
DEAREST

PLOT
Jessica and her family moves to Mexico to take over a doll factory,
when they get there they get a terrible surprise... the doll
factory is a mess and has been down for many years. Jessica finds
a storage with dolls and brings one home... what she doesn't
know is that the doll has been possessed by an evil Mayan spirit,
which was released a week earlier during the exhibition of a
Mayan crypt not far away from the factory. Now, Dolly is killing
everyone that comes in contact with Jessica and Jessica has no
intention of letting go of her dolly dearest.
REVIEW
Did I miss something here? I mean... when did Chucky have a sex
change? This is a complete Child's Play rip-off, you actually have
to search for scenes that you can't connect with Child's Play.
It's just like Andy & Chucky were replaced by girls and moved to
Mexico... oh and got a brother aswell. So you're thinking that I
should have seen this coming? Well, yeah, I did, but how can you
say no to a killer doll movie? I mean, that has never been done
before... right? At least this had a cool cubbyhouse in it aswell.
The directing is bad, and I am so sick of all these cat jumping
out of nowhere scares, come on, you've already ripped Child's
Play off, wasn't that enough? The acting is really bad but in
this case I know that they're doing the best they can... the only
one that was just too bad to be true was Denise Crosby who
actually did give us good performances in other movies.
Dolly Dearest is cheesy fun and you should watch it with a really
open mind. I was amazed to see that this had gotten a DVD release
in any country at all... the Hong Kong DVD that I saw was actually
really nice to be an Asian DVD, with a few cool extras aswell.
I don't know what... but there was something about this movie that
I liked and I just have to give it two stars for keeping me
entertained, and also, successfully ripping off Child's Play to
the fullest. Awful movie, but cheesy fun indeed.
GORE
Very goreless, all we get is a very non-gory knife stabbing and a
quite cool mechanic leaf saw through a hand. But did you really
expect it to be gory? We wouldn't want to break the Child's
Play standards right?
SOUNDTRACK
Nothing memorable here, the usual layers and pling plong horror
music, guess what movie the soundtrack reminded me off... hmmm...
BOTTOM LINE
Of the many Child's Play rip-offs there has been, this has to be
the one, which rips it off the most. I think that everyone might
enjoy this at some level, I mean, it's not like it's a good movie,
but at least you don't feel as if you've wasted your time, and
to me that means that the movie is worth watching. So go ahead
and rent/buy this movie now, as long as you don't take it as a
serious horror movie.
