REVIEW

Desecration proves that it takes more than originality and a good story
to make a film good. Nothing really happens in the movie, and when it
does, it's pretty lame. Some scenes are quite creepy and effective, but
there are very few of them, and one scene that was creepy the first
time we saw it got way overused.

The acting is good, especially from the old lady and the fortuneteller.
The fortune teller was very cheesy and played her part excellent as a
phoney fortune-teller (even though she wasn't phoney, it sure felt like it).
The directing was above my expectations, I was expecting a very low-
budget directing but it looked as if it was shot on 35mm, on the other
hand, maybe it was. If it was shot on 35mm, it sure didn't get the
attention that the director was expecting.

What we learn in this movie is basically that old catholic women shouldn't
walk in long stairs. Desecration feels as if it took Ulli Lommel's The
Boogeyman (1980) and changed the scenery to a nunnery. But since that
idea hasn't been used for almost twenty years now, this came out feeling
pretty original. Desecration is a decent attempt and I respect it for
that, still, I cannot give this movie more than 2 stars since I didn't
enjoy very much of it, and what I enjoyed were mainly unintentionally
humourous scenes.

GORE
All of the gore looks very fake, we get some scissors action with a
flying scissors slitting ones wrists up, making some leg injury, some
face cutting and finally some throat stabbing. We also get some blood-
covered faces and some very weird gore effects on some people’s hands,
if you didn't understand what I meant, then you obviously haven’t watched
the movie (which is not a bad thing).

SOUNDTRACK
Since were in a catholic school/nunnery ofcourse we get some church organs,
but since it takes place sometime around Christmas, we also get to hear
Silent Night, Holy Night and Jingle Bells. Then we have some freaky dark
sounds here and there aswell.

BOTTOM LINE
This movie has a lot of potential, but unfortunately it doesn't work very
well with it. It feels as if it tries to hard to be scary and instead
comes out very cheesy and unscary. If you want to kill an hour and a half,
this is totally ok, but don't expect too much of it as it isn't a very
good movie. It starts out nicely but slowly grows bad and boring.
