DEATHWATCH

PLOT
It's WWI and a couple of brittish soldiers manage to take cover
in a german bunker. When one of the soldiers mysteriously die, the
others suspect that there's someone still alive in the bunker,
trying to kill them. But what they don't know is that they shouldn't
be afraid of what's outside the bunker... they should fear what is
in it. As the soldiers are turned against eachother, rage and fear
drives them to madness.

REVIEW
In the vein of Dog Soldiers and The Bunker, this british war horror
thriller manages to reach a level that The Bunker didn't reach.
While I really hated The Bunker even if it was very much like this,
I still liked Deathwatch better. Maybe it was the effects, maybe
it was the gore or just maybe it was the fact that something actually
happened in this movie. Deathwatch actually reminded me a lot of
Below as it's paranoia that keeps the movie going. Instead of slowing
down or making a totally worthless ending at the end (like for example
blowing everything up, that is so used to death), this actually starts
out quite slow and becomes more and more intense for every minute.

Michael J. Bassett's real directorial movie debute is quite a good
one, the only thing that he didn't think of was bringing some light
into this movie as I for one wants to be able to see what's going on
all of the time. The acting is average, all quite big faces in
great britian. I just think that just about any actor could've been
in this movie as it's mostly shouting and screaming all the time.
Let me put it like this; the acting is as good as it can get, I just
don't think any of the actors had a really difficult part.

The reason that I didn't like Deathwatch too much was because even
if I said that there are more things happening in this movie than
in The Bunker, it doesn't tell you a lot about the movie. Deathwatch
was still pretty slow and I just wanted more action and horror and
less killing eachother with a gun and more decapitations. All in
all, Deathwatch was pretty much what I expected it to be, so I'm
not disappointed or surprised, it was simply just another world war
horrorflick that looks good in my collection.

GORE
A LOT of barbed wire action, mostly people with barbed wires squeezed
into their skin, but also a very cool barbed wire shooting through
the neck scene. We also get a quite gory scene where a guy has lost
his legs and one scene where a guy steps into a dead mans stomach,
messing all his guts up.

SOUNDTRACK
Nothing memorable, it's eerie but very uncreative.

BOTTOM LINE
Average horrormovie set in a war. If you are going to check out a new
world war horrormovie, I suggest that you check this one out as the
other recent ww horrormovie "The Bunker" is terrible. I wouldn't
suggest that you see this at the cinemas though as you might fall
asleep here and there since it's quite slow. If you manage to keep
your eyes open during the first half of the movie, you have a lot
coming for you in the second half. Whether it's good or not, that's
up to you to decide.
