CUT THROAT

PLOT
Someone dressed in a black suit and a scarecrow mask is killing
of the crew during the making of a low budget horror movie.
However, the show must go on, and the film does continue to shoot,
as the body count rises quickly.

REVIEW
Say what now? Scream 2? Cut? Oh no... Cut Deeper! This is like the
most unoriginal slasher I have ever seen, the original title, Scared,
was at least somehow original. But when a movie rips off the
Australian horror movie Cut, now how could ever want to rip-off that
piece of crap I will never understand, it also borrows the title
from Cut completely and somewhat tries to release itself as an
unofficial sequel. Ripping off a horrible movie is not a very bad
idea though. Cut (2000) had a lot of potential to be a good movie,
and the story was totally ok, but I actually felt that this movie
removed the bad parts out of Cut and improved the good parts. Now
that is not something that you see everyday right?

From the first time I heard about this movie, I was dying to see it,
as you all know by know, I'm a slashermaniac. Back then I was
waiting for the movie Scared, and was very surprised when I saw that
it had been released under the title Cut Deeper, especially as the
movie already has it's own site... though not so great. The acting
was quite average and the girls were very nice looking. Although,
the best looking actress disappeared about 10 minutes into the movie.
I never understood if she died or if they just dropped her. The
directing was probably the worst thing in the movie, yes, the colour
scheme is nice and feels good for your eyes, just like in the French
horror movie Promenons-Dans Le Bois, better known as Deep In The Woods.
But, the lighting is just awful sometimes, it is very, very dark
at some times when it shouldn't be dark, and the contrast is mixed
extremely bad. Since the mask is so dark you never really get to
see how it looks because of the bad lighting. The directing also
fails to deliver the high budget feeling and instead makes it look
probably lower budget than it actually was.

I can't say that this movie was all that bad, I actually enjoyed
most of it. If the directing had been made better, and the good-
looking girl from the beginning would have stayed in the movie,
this might have been up there with Wishcraft and Shredder. But
all the time you watch it, you can feel that it lacks of something,
and that just ruins most of the movie unfortunately. Worth a watch?
Yes, definitely. Worth a buy? Nah, I wouldn't count on it.

GORE
This movie does so not live up to it's title! Cut Throats? Yah, one.
Anything else? Nope, oh unless you like some stomach stabbing and
some gun action.

SOUNDTRACK
Pretty average and sometimes plain dull. Nothing we haven’t heard
before. Although, it's nice to hear a piano playing somewhere in
a slasher again, that was a long time since I heard last time.

BOTTOM LINE
Worth a watch, but be aware that this is not and doesn’t look like a
high budget production. If it's as bad as some of the crap that Full
Moon and Tempe Entertainment releases? NOOO! This is a lot better,
like a good version of Cut, with some weird resemblance to Do You
Wanna Know A Secret, can't explain why that movie came to mind,
as it really has nothing to do with the movie. Well, if you see it
in your local blockbuster, you should check it out, at least once.
