| GESTAPO'S LAST ORGY. | |
| AKA: L'ultima orgia del lll Reich, Bourreaux SS, Last Orgy of the Third Reich, Des Filles pour le bourreau, Caligula reincarnated as Hitler. | |
There are some nasty flashback scene's involving skulls being crushed with rifle butts and people being lowered screaming into vats of acid. |
|
| Other Information. Banned in the UK. A Japanese DVD is available which is uncut but has optically censored nude scenes. The US release from Media Blasters/Shriek Show is fully uncut, but due to print damage features some scenes taken from a VHS source. |

| THE HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY. | |
| AKA: The House Outside the Cemetery, Quella Villa accanto al Cimitero. | |
Another one of Italian gore hound Lucio
Fulci's zombie pics. Fulci regular Katriona MacColl moves
into a new house, only to find that it was the former
home of a Dr. Freudstein, who's bizarre experiments on
the undead are still hanging about in the cellar.
Gore fans will not be disappointed with this one (well the
uncut version anyway), which features numerous throat slashing and
decapitations although this version had already been pre-cut to remove a
decapitation scene. |
|
| Other Information. The post VRA re-issues by "Elephant" and then "Vipco" were cut by the BBFC by 4:45s. The 2001 re-issue by Vipco faired better, as this only suffered 33s of cuts. Apparently the BBFC would have liked to pass it uncut, but were unable to due to the film having an obscenity conviction back in 94 (after someone got busted dealing in uncut imports). Vipco had issued the uncut version in Denmark, other uncut releases can be found in Holland, and on Japanese laserdisc. An uncut US DVD is also available. SEE MAIN REVIEW. |

| HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE PARK. | |
| AKA: La Casa Spereduta del Parco, La Casa al confini del Parco, Der Schlitzer. | |
Directed by Ruggero
Deodato, the man who brought us Cannibal Holocaust, this
film takes its inspiration from "Last House on the
Left" and even stars its main bad guy David Hess in
a similar roll as a crazed rapist, along with
"Ferox" star John Morghen (his THIRD appearance
on the list). With a cast like that, you can tell what
sort of a pic this is going to be.
Hess and Morghen gate
crash a party full of yuppies and spend the best part of
the film terrorising them. This is quite a nasty Italian
film, particularly the scenes where Hess is slicing a
women's body with a razor, although exploitation fans will
undoubtedly enjoy it. Rest assured he does get his
come-uppance at the films end. Also stars Morghen's
"Ferox" co-star Lorraine De-Selle and European
porn star Annie Bell (the second film on the list she
features in, and who was obviously not hired her acting
abilities). |
|
| Other Information. Despite being rejected for a cinema certificate in 1981, was surprisingly removed from the DPP's list and not prosecuted. Vipco managed to get the film passed for a video release in 2002, although this suffered a whopping 11M:42s of cuts, which removed or heavily edited all the assaults by David Hess on the women. Available uncut on Dutch DVD from EC Entertainment, and on US DVD by Shriek Show/Media Blasters. |

| HUMAN EXPERIMENTS. | |
| AKA: Beyond the Gate. | |
A nightclub singer, Linda Haynes, is
wrongly convicted of murder and sent to the loony bin. There she is
subjected to the bizarre psychological experiments of the resident mad
doctor, played by Geoffrey Lewis (Orville from "Every which way but
loose" and "Any which way you can").
Strange animals appear in her cell at night, along
with giant bugs and spiders. Eventually she escapes, and gives the
doctor a taste of his own medicine. |
|
| Other Information. Re-released after 26s of BBFC cuts, although currently OOP. (Not to be confused with a film of the same name released by "Vipco" in the mid-90's, which is an entirely different film). US distributors Code Red are said to be planning a DVD release Stateside. |
|
| I MISS YOU HUGS AND KISSES. | |
| AKA: Drop Dead Dearest, Left for Dead. | |
Apparently this one
was based on the real life murder trial of Peter Demeter,
an estate agent from Toronto Canada. Elke Sommers, who also appeared in
"Carry on Behind", stars as the unfortunate
victim who is shown to have been killed in one of a
number of ways, one of them having a building block
dropped on her, and another her being electrocuted in the
swimming pool.
The story is told in a series of confusing
flashbacks that makes you wonder as to whether the film
is set in the present or the past. The film may have
appeared on the DPP's list because of the video sleeve
text which says "For those who like their sex with a
lot of violence", although this is extremely
misleading as the violence is presented in a very
abstract way. |
|
| Other Information. Re-released after 1:06s of BBFC cuts as "Drop Dead Dearest" on the "Heron Video" label (currently OOP). This is another one of the few elusive nasties that doesn't seem to be available anywhere at the moment. |
|
| INFERNO. | |
Dario Argento's follow up to
"Suspiria". The tenants of a New York
apartment block meet a grisly demise after coming across
a book which chronicles the exploits of an evil trio
called "The Three Mothers" who rule the
underworld.
The brother of one of the victims, Leigh
McCloskey, does a little investigating and discovers the
horrible secrets housed in the apartments. Apparently
one scene that caused a lot of aggravation with the
censors was that of a cat eating a mouse (what?). Haven't
they ever seen "Tom & Jerry" ? SEE

| ISLAND OF DEATH. | |
| AKA: Island of perversion, Island of Death, A Craving for Lust, Devils in Mykonos, Pedhia tou dhiavolou, Cruel Destination, Psychic Killer 2. | |
Set on the island of Myconos, this is one film
that didn't do the Greek tourist board any favours. A young couple,
Chris and Celia, arrive on a Greek island for a winter break and decide
to spend their holiday killing and torturing the local
sexual deviants.
This film is one that would offend the
whole of the "Politically Correct" lobby as it
depicts scene's of beastiality, incest, torture and
homophobia. One amusing scene is where Chris invades a
gay party wielding a sword. Originally released under the
aptly named title "Island of Perversion". |
|
| Other Information. A cut version was originally passed with an "X" certificate for a cinema release under the title "A craving for lust". A heavily edited version was submitted to the BBFC for a video release under the title "Psychic Killer 2", but this was rejected. Vipco managed to get a more complete version passed in 2002, but this suffered 4m:09s of cuts, which toned down the scenes of sexual assault. Available uncut on Greek and US DVD. A limited edition German DVD was also released under the title "Cruel Destination". |

| I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE. | |
| AKA: Day of the Woman, I Hate Your Guts. | |
An extremely brutal
and shocking film about a young author who is attacked
and repeatedly raped by 3 young local rednecks and their
retarded friend whilst holidaying in the countryside.
Cammille Keaton (grand-niece of Buster) stars in the lead
role of the poor victim who following the assault, goes
on a quest for revenge and hangs, castrates and chops the
4 attackers to death in retribution.
This is another one
of the films that kicked off the "Video Nasties" furore by the media, owing to the extremely
lengthy gang rapes which are depicted with gritty realism
and are almost unwatchable. However, the scene's where
she kills her attackers for their misdeeds appear almost
comical, particularly when she hangs the retarded guy
from a tree which was so ridiculous the whole scene
appeared unintentionally funny. |
|
| Other Information. The version passed by the BBFC in 2002 suffered over 7 minutes of cuts to get an 18cert. This was later re-released in a slightly more complete version that "reframed" the rape scenes so they took place just off camera, but still suffered 41s of cuts to remove the scene where she is raped over the rock. Available uncut on US DVD . SEE MAIN REVIEW. |

| KILLER NUN. | |
| AKA: Suor Omicidi, Deadly Habit. | |
If your a devout Catholic, the chances are you
probably won't like this low budget film starring the ageing former
screen sexpot "Anita Ekberg", but then the same is also true if your a
devout horror fan. This lurid tale concerns a dope taking nun who goes
around bonking, and then killing, the inmates of the local loony bin
where she works.
Inmates are bashed over the head, thrown out of
windows, strangled, kicked and stuck with pins before mother superior
brings things to a halt by slipping her a poisoned chalice. Sounds more
entertaining than it actually is. |
|
| Other Information. Re-released in the early 90's onto the "Redemption" label, which sufferd 13s of cuts. Was finally released uncut in 2008 by Shameless entertainment. Also available on an uncut US DVD by Blue Underground. |

| AKA: Don't Ride on Late Night trains, Night Train Murders, Torture Train, The New House on the Left, Night Train-Der letze zug in der nacht, Violenza sull' ultimo treno della notte, L'ultimo treno della notte. | |
Another one of many
Italian exploitation films that borrowed its plot from
Wes Cravens "Last House on the Left" was this
1975 offering by Aldo Lado. This film concerns a couple
of psycho's, played by Gianfranco di Grassi and Flavio
Bucci, who with the help of Macha Meril from "Deep Red" terrorise then
murder a couple of young girls on a night train. At the end of their journey they unwittingly check
into the house of one of the girls parents who subsequently discover
what they have done, then dish out some rather painful vengeance on
them. Look out for Irene Miracle who plays one of the young girl
victims, who also starred in "Inferno" and "Midnight Express". |

| LOVE CAMP 7. | |
| AKA: Camp 7, Lager Femminile, Camp Special no.7 | |
The video packaging claims that
this film is based on fact, but the plot is so far
fetched you would have a hard time believing that. Set in
a Nazi "Love Camp" that services the needs of
front line officers, this is actually a very poor film,
done in the same sleazy vein as "Isla - She Wolf of
the SS".
2 young WAC officers go undercover as POW's in the prison camp hoping to get some information from a scientist that's being held there, before being sprung out by the French resistance. Unfortunately things go wrong with the break out and they end up overstaying their welcome and being subjected to the same indignities as the other inmates. Producers R.W. Cresse and David
Freidman turn up as 2 of the Nazi officers, that appear
more interested in inflicting softcore gropings than
hardcore torturing. |
|
| Other Information. Banned in the UK. Was also rejected by the BBFC for a video relase in 2002. An uncut DVDr is available in the US from Something Weird video, but only through their website. |

| THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT. | |
| AKA: Krug and Company, Grim Company, The Mens Room, Sex crime of the Century, The Men's Room, Night of Vengance. | |
An early exploitation pic by "Nightmare
on Elm Street" director Wes Craven and "Friday
the 13th" crew Sean Cunningham and Steve Miner.
Two schoolgirls call in at a dope house hoping to buy
some marijuana, but instead fall victim to the
Illustrious David Hess and his friends.
The girls are then subjected to various forms of sexual humiliation, before being tortured with a razor, raped disembowelled and shot. They dump the bodies in a nearby park, but end up running from the police. They hold up in a nearby house, that just happens to be the home of one of the girls parents. After discovering what the 2 have done, the rest of the film is spent showing the parents inflicting similar torture onto Hess and his friend in revenge, by means of axe, chainsaw, throat slashing and castration. This release was uncut in terms of gore, but missed out a
5 minute scene of the 2 goofy cops trying to hitch a ride
on a chicken truck. Martin Kove, who went on to star in
80's cop show "Cagney and Lacey" and
the film "The Karate Kid", has a small
role as the Sheriff's deputy. |
|
| Other Information. The film was rejected for a cinema certificate by the BBFC in 1972. It was submitted again in 1999, but rejected for a second time, although Leicester Council did allow the film to be shown at a special horror festival in 2000. There have been numerous uncut prints popping up from time-to-time, all with varying scenes added or missing. The most complete versions currently available are on French and Dutch DVD. An uncut special edition US DVD is also available, but beware of the heavily censored "R" rated video. Blue Underground/Anchor Bay UK video tried to push an uncut print through the BBFC in 2002, but were forced to make 31s of cuts after losing an appeal. (note!!! Although being edited, the UK DVD also contains an alternate version of the film entitled Krug and Co). SEE MAIN REVIEW. |

Non si deve profanare il sonno del morti, Weekend per i Morti, Da dove vieni, Le Massacre des morts-vivants, Invasion der zombies, Das leichenhaus der Lebenden Toten. | |
Another Italian zombie pic, this time by
director Jorge Grau. Set in The Lake District in England, Ray Lovelock
stars as a bearded Hippy art dealer who gets blamed for a spate of
murders that were actually committed by zombies that have been
reactivated by an experimental pest control device that uses sonic
waves.
In one of the more interesting scenes, the zombies
take over the hospital and proceed to eat the patients. |
|
| Other Information. A cut version of this film played UK cinema's, but the edited scene's were re-instated for it's video release on the VIP label (although an edited version was also released on the LVC label under the US title "Don't open the Window") . The film was submitted for classification post VRA minus 1:27 of pre-cut footage, but only released after a further 26s of cuts by the BBFC onto the "European Creative Video" label (Currently OOP). The film was finally passed uncut for a UK release in 2002 on the UK Anchor Bay label, who also distribute the uncut US release (under the title "Let Sleeping Corpses Lie"). |

| AKA: There was a little Girl, Party des Shreckens, And when she was bad. | |
Julia, a teacher in a school for
the deaf, has a hideously deformed twin sister that
resides in the local loony bin. She escapes to spring a
surprise birthday party for Julia by murdering all the
party guests with the help of a giant killer Alsatian
dog, which gets it's come-uppance "Driller
Killer" style, in a scene that will offend most
animal lovers.
NOT to be confused with the Peter
Cushing/Vincent Price horror film of the same name, or the 2004 film
with Lance Henricksen. Features music by Riz Ortelli, who composed the score to
"Cannibal Holocaust". |

| MARDI GRAS MASSACRE. | |
| AKA Crypt of Dark Secrets. | |
A serial killer in
a welders mask stalks the streets of New Orleans during
the Mardi Gras festivals, and proceeds to mutilate
hapless prostitutes in a plot that was obviously borrowed
from "Blood Feast". One interesting gore scene
is where one of his victims has her stomach split open
and bloody organs pulled out from within, but this effect
is repeated so many times it loses it's impact,
particularly as the torso used is so obviously made of
latex.
This really is a tediously boring film to sit
through and the acting is diabolical (of course),
particularly that of Laura Misch, a Playboy pin up, who
plays the heroine. |
|
| Other Information. Still currently banned in the UK. Available on a US DVD on the 'Videoscreen' label. |

|
| NIGHTMARE MAKER. | |
| AKA: Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker, Night Warning, Thrilled to Death, Momma's Boy, The Evil Protege. | |
The story for this film is a sort-of reverse of
the plot from "Psycho", whereby an over protective aunt, played by Susan
Tyrell, gets a jealous of her nephews girlfriends so goes around
murdering them in order to keep him around. This film was probably
included because of its portrayal of a semi-incestuous relationship
between herself and the young orphaned nephew she'd been
raising as her own.
Directed by William Asher, who also directed a lot
of the old "I Love Lucy" TV show episodes, the film shows some
entertainingly gory moments near the end, but mostly plays as a
psychological thriller. A young Bill Paxton (of "Aliens", "Near Dark"
and "Twister" fame) has a small role as a high school 'jock', and
character actor Bo Svenson ("Delta Force", "Kill Bill 2") plays the
investigating detective. |
|
| Other Information. Removed from the DPP's list. Was submitted to the BBFC with cuts in 1987 under the title "The Evil Protege" but was rejected. Was available on US video under the title "Night Warning". Code Red have announced a US DVD is in the works. |
|
| NIGHTMARES IN A DAMGED BRAIN. | |
| AKA: Nightmare, Dark Games, Blood Splash, Schizo. | |
A former sex
offender is released from a mental asylum, supposedly
cured, only to be triggered off again after visiting a
peep show. Remembering how he killed his parents with an
axe after finding them engaged in a bondage session, he
subsequently goes on to menace a poor single parent and
her 3 kids.
There's some spectacular gore, which was
supervised by SFX wizard Tom Savini, but the whole film
is too seedy and lurid for most people's liking. The film
was included in the list because of it's mix of hardcore
violence and explicit sex (such things were a strict no-no
at the BBFC), in fact the distributor was actually
prosecuted and jailed for 6 months as the film was 60
seconds longer than the cinema version. Poor sod! |
|
| Other Information. Passed with cuts for an "X" certificate at the cinema. The video had 60 seconds of extra footage in that had been removed from the cinema version but it was not actually uncut. The full uncut version has been released in Holland on the "Video for Pleasure" label. The UK version released in 2002 by Screen Entertainment was passed uncut by the BBFC, but unfortunately the distributors had mistakenly got hold of a cut print, although its still more complete than the previous UK releases. A forthcoming US DVD has been slated for release by distributors Code Red, which will hopefully be uncut. |

| NIGHT OF THE BLOODY APES. | |
| AKA: Gomar-The Human Gorilla, The Horrible Human Beast, Horror Y sexo, La Horriplante Bestia Humania, Horror and Sex. | |
Not to be confused
with any of the "Planet of the Apes" movies
(and no, Roddy MacDowell does not appear in it), this low
budget Mexican horror film is about a surgeon who tries
to save his son from a fatal disease by giving him a
heart transplant using a Gorilla heart. His son then
becomes deformed and mutated, as he sprouts excessive
facial hair and takes on the characteristics of the
organs donor.
He escapes and goes on a bloody rampage,
featuring some of most unconvincing gore effects,
including a scalping which is nothing more than a wig
being pulled off a bald headed man. Probably got the DPP's attention because of the graphic open heart surgery
inserted in the ape operation scenes. |
|
| Other Information. A heavily pre-cut version was submitted and passed for video release in 1999. Vipco released an uncut video in Denmark in the late 90's and an uncut Mexican DVD was released in 2001. Also available uncut on US DVD on a double bill disc with "Flesh Feast". |

| NIGHT OF THE DEMON. | |
A somewhat bizarre
entry into the DPP's hit list (but then that's true of most of these
films) was this unconvincingly graphic outing by director James Wasson.
An American Bigfoot/Yeti creature goes around the woodlands, ripping peoples arms out of their sockets and beating them to death with the soggy ends. A Yeti hunting party sets out to find the creature and are unfortunately successful, as they get their throats cut, faces fried and then disembowelled and whipped with their own intestines in slow motion (great stuff)! Not to be confused with the old black and white film of the same name, the movie is ludicrously funny, particularly in one scene where a passing motorcyclist stops to answer the call of nature and inadvertently pee's all over the creature who's hiding in the bushes, and gets his wedding tackle removed in a tearfully painful, but funny scene. |

| POSSESSION. | |
A surreal horror tale by art house director
"Andrjez Zulawski". Set in Berlin during World War 3 "Isabelle
Adjani" and "Sam Neill" (of Omen 3, Event Horizon and Jurassic Park
fame) star as a couple who's marriage is on the rocks. Adjani claims to
have a lover but Neill returns home one day to find her making love
instead to a slimy octopus creature.
Realising she's not mad after all, he decides an impromptu
divorce is in order. There's some exceptional gore, including where
Adjani slices into her own neck with an electric carving knife and a
scene where she has a miscarriage on the Metro which is quite yucky, but
nothing that hardened gore hounds can't handle. |

| PRANKS. | |
| AKA: The Dorm that Dripped Blood, Death Dorm. | |
The same production team that went on to
bring us such turkeys as "The Power"
and "Kindred" made this equally awful
slasher film about a group of students who volunteer to
clear out a derelict college building prior to its
demolition, but end up falling prey to a psychopathic
killer who's squatting in the building.
The poor kids are
garrotted, beaten with spiked clubs, and dismembered, but
the gore is relatively unconvincing given the films low
budget. Daphne Zuniga, who appeared in "The Fly
2" and played Princess Vespa in the sci-fi
comic spoof "Spaceballs", appears in a
minor role. |
|
| Other Information. Re-released after 10s of BBFC cuts onto the "VDP" label. The 2001 release by "Vipco" is of this same edited version. A US DVD is also available, though reports suggest this print was taken from the cut UK release. |

| PRISONER OF THE CANNIBAL GOD. | |
| AKA: Mountain of the Cannibal God, Slave of the cannibal god, La Montagne du dieu cannible, La Montagna del dio cannibale, die Weisse Gottin der Kanninbalen. | |
I was quite
surprised to see well known 70's film star Stacey Keach
and former Bond girl Ursella Andress in a cannibal film,
but nether the less here it is! This particular flick is
set in New Guinea, where Keach is helping Andress search
the jungle for her missing husband, although they're also
secretly looking for Uranium deposits.
They are later joined by Claudio Cassilenni, then get captured by a local cannibal tribe called the Pooka (Puker?) who find them worshipping her husband's decomposed remains, as they can hear his giger counter ticking and believe it to be his heart still working. There's one or two nasty scene's of animal killing, including a turtle being fed to a crocodile and an iguana being split open, but Andress fans will undoubtedly enjoy the scene where she is tied up, stripped naked, and painted with goo! Please
note that several of the gore scenes from this film were
later "borrowed" (ie ripped off) by Umberto
Lenzi and re-used in his film "Eaten Alive"
(aka "Emerald Jungle", "Mangiati
Vivi") which surprisingly didn't make the list. |
|
| Other Information. Originally passed with an "X" certificate, after cuts, for a cinema release. The film was eventually removed from the DPP's list, but wasn't re-issued until 2001 by the Vipco label. This release removed all the animal cruelty, but left all the gore supposedly intact. The uncut version is available on Dutch DVD from "EC Entertainment". A US budget DVD under the title "Slave of the Cannibal God" is almost uncut, missing out a close up from the castration scene.
