Alien VS Predator : Requiem

The first Alien V Predator film may have suffered its fair share of criticism, but it had certainly proved profitable enough for 20th Century Fox to warrant a sequel. Picking up immediately after the events of the previous film, the predators have problems with a rogue alien hybrid on board their ship, which causes it to crash back on Earth close to a town in the Colorado hills.

With the alien facehuggers escaping into the countryside and the new alien creature on the loose, its down to the Predators to try and clean up the mess and cover up what's happened. However, it doesn't take long for the facehuggers to find fresh victims and fairly soon there's fully grown Aliens running amok in the nearby town.

With the towns power supply knocked out, following an unfortunate incident at the nearby plant between the Predator and Aliens, and the roads out of town blocked with panicking residents trying to escape, things look grim for a small band of survivors, lead by the local Sheriff (John Ortiz) and a young female soldier (Reiko Aylsworth), who're  trying to escape amongst the ensuing chaos.

Overall, this is a great improvement over the first AVP film, the action kicks off pretty much from the start and the fast pacing stays fairly constant throughout. Some of the more memorable scenes include a detachment of National Guard soldiers being decimated by the Aliens, who then go on to wipe out a maternity ward in a nearby hospital (great stuff).

Overall Marks : 7/10.

Other Information.

  • Alternate tag lines "This Christmas there will be no peace on Earth", "It began on their world. It will end on ours", "The last place we want to be is in the middle".

  • Though set in Colorado, the film was actually shot in Vancouver, Canada.

  • Originally there was a role written for the character of Garber, who was one of the surviving members of Agent Keys unit from "Predator 2". However, original actor Adam Baldwin was unavailable for shooting due to other commitments, so the part was re-written as Col Stevens and Robert Joy cast in the role.

  • The main Predator in the film was nicknamed "Wolf" by the production crew, which was a reference to Harvey Keitel's character Winston Wolfe from "Pulp Fiction", who would remove or cover up evidence of assassinations or 'accidents'.

  • Ariel Gade, who played Kelly's young daughter Molly, also played young Cici in the US remake of of the film "Dark Water".

  • There were several additional scenes included for the DVD release. A new shot of a scout craft detaching from the Predator mother ship, which is the one seen crashing in the forest (thus explaining why the crashed Predator ship is smaller than the one seen at the end of the last film), a longer take of "Wolf" predator looking inside the crashed ship, an additional scene at the power plant of a worker coming across his colleagues dead body and seeing the outline of the invisible Predator, the predator shooting a foul mouthed local who's hiding in a graveyard and a scene showing the Chestbursters breaking out of Carrie's stomach in the Diner.

  • The Alien hybrid was played by Tom Woodruff, who also played alien creatures in Alien 3, Alien Resurrection and the first AVP film.

  • A number of scenes were cut from the film and are not included on the DVD release either. Among them, a shot on the crashed ship showing the skinned bodies of Predators strung up using Alien resin. A scene with Kelly and Molly in the park with their pet dog. An additional scene in the hospital showing a couple of kids seeing an Alien kill a nurse, and fleeing in a car, followed by a scene with Kelly on the roof of the armoured car using the M60 gun against several Aliens.

  • Several of the headstones in the Graveyard scene bore the names of the soldiers who were killed in the first Predator film, Hawkins, Blain, Poncho etc, however the only one visible during the shot is "Hawkins".

  • Kelly's character is supposed to be a soldier in the US Army, however the uniform she is wearing at the start of the film appears to be of the type worn by the Marine corps.
