Julie
Shiel lives in Maryland with her three cats, Hercules, Nyx and Merlin, and two sugar
gliders named Luna and Loki. They kindly allow her to serve their every need.
"I've been writing as long as I can remember, and it's always been of the darker variety. I mainly write horror poetry and short stories, but sometimes wander into fantasy and erotica, or various combinations."
"Some of my
favorite things:"
"Reading: I'm almost always reading a book or three. Some of my favorite authors are Stephen King, Anne Rice, J.R.R. Tolkien, Clive Barker, Robert Jordan and Edgar Allan Poe. Besides horror, I love ethnobotany books, especially those by Wade Davis, and books on any type of mythology and fairy tales. For poetry, I love W.B. Yeats, e.e. cummings, and Poe."
"Travel:
I love to travel above all. I've done volunteer work in Peru and Guyana, and
have also traveled to Ecuador, Egypt, India, Morocco, Kenya and Rome so far.
I want to go everywhere. :) I'm hoping to
do more volunteer work in the future."
"Gardening: I've
always been into herbology, but gardening is a recent passion. I'm turning my
yard into a wildlife habitat, with a moon garden and faery garden, and I'm attempting to
grow a garden of poisonous, night-blooming, and carnivorous plants." 
"Graveyards and ruins: I love graveyards and any type of ruin. I love to wander among the old stones. They're very peaceful places. I've recently gotten very interested in Urban Exploration and have visited some amazing places."
"Danger: I'm afraid I'm somewhat of an adrenalin junkie. I love to try things such as sky diving (which I hope to do again!), stomping through the jungles of South America with a machete in hand, and anything that gets the fight or flight response kicking in. :) "
"The Night: I love the night. I love its smells, sounds, taste, and how it cloaks everything in darkness. It makes me feel exhilarated. Besides all this, I tend to break out in rashes if I'm in the sunlight for long!"
"Music:
My all time favorite is Nine Inch Nails! I also love Danzig, Lestat, Dio, Judas
Priest, Marilyn Manson, Type O Negative... I could go on and on. My tastes lean
towards goth and metal, but can be pretty eclectic. To relax, I love Gregorian
Chants."
"Friends: I don't have a lot of friends, but the ones I do are wonderful. Without my friends I wouldn't be able to make it. I'm grateful to have them and for all the support they've offered me!"
