A man is beheaded by a masked killer who takes the head to his basement
laboratory. There he finds a burglar who has already discovered the
laboratory's preserved corpse. After a fight in which the burglar
escapes, the masked man reveals himself to be Baron Frankenstein, who
destroys the evidence in his laboratory and then flees. Frankenstein
takes up residence in Anna Spengler's boarding house, then blackmails
Anna and her boyfriend, Karl Holst, who has been selling drugs stolen
from an asylum, into abducting the brilliant but insane Dr. Frederick
Brandt from the institution. Frankenstein removes and operates on
Brandt's brain, then transplants it into another body. The Baron hopes
that Brandt will now help him with his experiments. When this latest
Frankenstein creation realizes what has happened to him, he stalks toward
a terrified Anna, who stabs him with a scaplel, an act for which later
the Baron stabs her. The creature goes to Ella, Brandt's wife , but
she is repulsed by him. For revenge, the creature sets fire to Brandt's
house and Frankenstein tries salvaging some of Brandt's notes. Escaping
with the papers, Frankenstein is delayed by an attacking Karl. The
creature kicks Karl, then carries the Baron back into the inferno.
