What’s Bizarro
fiction? I’m glad you asked. After
receiving my Master’s, I started publishing short stories amid producing
the occasional play. Initially, critics complained that my work was
a tired rehashing of existential black humor. (One reviewer even bitched
that I took four“long pages” to tell a one-line joke.) Oh, the humanity!
I
would have been forever lost & forgotten had it not been for one thing &
one thing only—Bizarro! As
is the ever-so-reliable habit with academia & knee jerk-prone critics, after
an umbrella term was coined for a new type of writing which takes the
philosophical precepts of existentialism & surrealism to their most
extreme &¾more
often than not¾hilarious
conclusions, my inane scribblings¾on
account of the extents that I carried my already absurd premises¾not
only suddenly made sense but were instantaneously legitimized because they were
deemed progressive, avant garde literature. Yippee! Salvation is at hand, I have a purpose in life! Praise be to the Almighty Bizarro! So it goes. |
