What's
horror sculpture? I’m glad you asked.
Put simply, it's merely a term that someone coined in order to label what I dredge out of my studio every so often. Nothing more. I don't think about what I'm doing when I create anymore than when I'm having a bowel movement & have found that, even more frequently than when I write, after finishing a piece, I am suddenly unable to account for large portions of my life which have somehow escaped my conscious perception. In this regard, I am grateful I didn't make art a career because I would otherwise wake up one day, scratching my head in bewilderment, wondering how I arrived on my deathbed. On that note, I will say though I try to dabble in every single art form I can get my hands on, so far tattooing is the most tedious, nerve-wracking medium I've come across because a) the elasticity of the skin distorts the artist's perception of the canvas, b) you must painstakingly blend each & every hue prior to application, & c) there are no second chances. It's not like you can just get pissed off, cut away the botched artwork, slap on a new piece of skin, &, hi ho, start afresh. The real ass-kicker? Most tattoos demand a black outline, coloring book-style, which flippantly downplays whatever masterpiece you just spent a handful of back-breaking hours crafting. Oh, & the background's done in acrylic (as if you care). |
