The Universal Frankenstein

"Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman" really casts an extremely poor light on Bela Lugosi and the Creature. It's a sequel to both "The Wolfman" and "The Ghost Of Frankenstein" . The Creature had received Ygor's brain in "The Ghost Of Frankenstein" and was blinded by it. Bela Lugosi (never one for subtlety anyway) really flails his arms around and looks pretty ridiculous as the Creature. Compounding Bela's Creature problems were his round face and the fact that he was becoming a very old man! In Bela's defense his arm flailing would have made some sense if Universal had kept his dialog in. Yep. After screenings and people laughing out loud over a Hungarian accented Creature all his dialog was removed. Lon Chaney Jr. did his usual pretty great Wolfman performance. The hottest babe to EVER appear in a horror flick is Ilona Massey as Elsa Frankenstein. Personally I think Ol' Frankie would mop the floor with the Wolfman. It's too bad they didn't get to finish the fight! The opening scene where the grave robbers enter Talbot's tomb is one of Universal's best.
