"Son Of Frankenstein" was great to look at. It looks really beautiful. A much weaker screenplay damages it. The annoying child actor is just this side of intolerable. Bela Lugosi does perhaps his best character actor bit as Ygor. Boris Karloff got his wish and the Creature is mute again. Maybe he saw everyone else's lines and wanted it that way!! Sadly Boris is just kinda there as the Creature begins it's sad descent into just a prop. Boris does come through when he finds his friend dead. Basil Rathbone is delightfully over the top as Wolf Von Frankenstein and who can forget Lionel "Pinky" Atwill as the one armed gendarme. When I was a kid the highlight of the movie for me was Wolf's medical analysis of the Creature. This was to be filmed in color but due to technical and budget reasons it reverted to black and white. A color Universal Frankie? Nah.....
