Welcome to one of the main features of 'Castle Dracula,' the movie reviews section.
The reviews placed here are from all around the world, from the USA to the UK Japan
and everything inbetween. The formats reviewed are video and DVD. I have included the
origin of the film reviewed so you can check your player for compatibility. You may
also notice that there are some DVD-R reviews. These are not 'bootlegs' or 'copies'
but official screeners that I have been sent containing an as yet unreleased film to
review. All the reviews here have been reviewed either by myself or my current movie
reviewers. If you're an avid watcher of horror movies then why not join 'Castle Dracula'
as an official 'staff member' reviewing them. To do so, just click on the 'Join My Staff'
link in the menu to the left for details of this and other vacancies.
New reviews are normally placed here once a week, check my front page for under 'Castle
Dracula Updates' to see what latest movie reviews have been placed.
- Halloween - US Limited Edition Double Disc DVD -
This US import of the double DVD disc set of the classic horror movie, Halloween,
is probably now not available anywhere.
Or not for the £20 i paid for it.
Many believe this to be one of the first "slasher" movies.
No, i think "Bay of Blood" may get that title.
Anyway, this set comes in a package (numbered) with one of those pictures that
when you tilt it sideways, it changes.
First it's the famous pumpkin mask with the knife from the cover of the book,
tilt it and it becomes the famous white mask that Michael wears in the subsequent
sequels.
The extras you get with this set are very impressive.
The film is digitally remastered into THX, now it looks and sounds REALLY creepy.
You can watch it in full screen or wide screen, there's original theatrical
trailers, television spots, radio spots, talent bios, still and poster gallery,
behind the scenes still gallery, a special brand new documentary entitled,
"Halloween Unmasked - 2000" featuring interviews with John Carpenter, Irwin
Yablans, Brian Andrew, Nick Castle, Dean Cundey, Jamie Lee Curtis, Debra Hill,
P.J.Soles and Tommy Lee Wallace.
This is a really brilliant, interesting documentary.
But, best of all, you get the special US tv version of Halloween which includes
an extra twelve minutes of footage that was shot especially for this version.
Including a great scene where Loomis argues his case with the governors of
the hospital where Michael is kept, stating his reasons why he shouldn't be
released.
If you can find this import set at a now affordable price, it is well worth
the price for true horror collectors.
I've heard it being sold now though, for some very silly money.
