Welcome to one of the main features of 'Castle Dracula,' the movie reviews section.
The reviews placed here are from all around the world, from the USA to the UK Japan
and everything inbetween. The formats reviewed are video and DVD. I have included the
origin of the film reviewed so you can check your player for compatibility. You may
also notice that there are some DVD-R reviews. These are not 'bootlegs' or 'copies'
but official screeners that I have been sent containing an as yet unreleased film to
review. All the reviews here have been reviewed either by myself or my current movie
reviewers. If you're an avid watcher of horror movies then why not join 'Castle Dracula'
as an official 'staff member' reviewing them. To do so, just click on the 'Join My Staff'
link in the menu to the left for details of this and other vacancies.
New reviews are normally placed here once a week, check my front page for under 'Castle
Dracula Updates' to see what latest movie reviews have been placed.

- Faces of Gore 2 - US DVD -

If you have already read my review of the original 'Faces of Gore,' then you will know
that I am no a fan of this series. In fact, I find the way they are portrayed to be
beyond the realms of bad taste. I have seen many 'mondo/shockumentaries' and not been
bothered but I have never seen any that try to treat every 'death scene' as a butt of
some form of joke as these do.
However, if you did enjoy the first one, then this will satiate your taste even further.
The concept is the same as the original, the film is split into segments (accidents,
suicides and murders) which we are supposed to believe are case files, narrated to us
again by 'Dr Vincent Van Gore.' Though this time he's cut his hair and now over performs
beyond belief, he still is obviously reading his inane drivel from cue cards too.
Yet again, all the footage is culled from paramedical and police training videos.
Footage this time round includes a young man who has been not only hit by an articulated
truck but partly crushed underneath the wheels. 'Van Gore' enjoys the removing of the
crushed head and torso from underneath the wheels so much that he 'treats us' to a 'slow
motion replay.' Obviously this is taken from the 'accidents file.'
From the 'suicides file,' one of the worst scenes concerns a woman who has committed
suicide because she has cancer. As the medics peel away her clothing, showing her breasts
covered in tumours, 'Van Gore' expresses his disgust and expects you to do the same at
having to imagine being married to (and sleeping with) this woman. Whether he is genuinely
serious or he is just assaulting our intelligence with more of his so called macabre humour
is not obviously apparent because of the completely stupid voice he uses while he narrates
throughout this DVD.
In the (thankfully) final segment, the 'murder file,' we are given probably the sickest
footage of all.
A man who ate his partner's foetus but threw it back up in a public restaurant. Needless
to say, we are shown the foetus in detailed close up. That's without even mentioning the
bottle of drain cleaner that was swallowed.
This time around I have purposefully not gone into detail of this DVD's contents, lets
face it, if you're reading this, you've read my review of the first one. Or you own the
first but wanted to read a review of the second to see if it's more of the same. Either
way, you know what you're getting and you already know if this appeals to you or not. It
is sick, unflinching and not for the easily offended. Depending on whether you liked the
original depends on whether this is better or not. If you liked the first, then you'll
probably like this more. If you didn't, this will not change your mind, rather reinforce
your opinions.
Again, as with the first, there are no extras, the picture is above VHS quality and the
audio is in mono but consistent.
