What we're getting, and what we're using

We thought it might be useful to writers considering submitting to Dark Fire to know what sort of stories are currently arriving in our inbox, and what we're accepting, especially as we've only had a couple of issues out so far. Of course, to do this we're having to pigeon-hole stories, and we don't just accept or reject them according to what type of monster they feature... but you'll see, for example, just how many serial killer stories we're using out of the number we receive, and perhaps this will provide some idea of how your homicidal maniac tale will fare.

So here's a table showing the (very rough) story theme groupings, the percentage of those received they make up, and the percentage of these that are accepted. For example, ~17% of the submissions have been serial killer-themed, and we're going to use ~ 30% of them. But this is just what we've got so far. If you've written something completely different that won't fit in any of these catagories (but bear in mind our range: horror and dark fantasy), send it and we'll add a new catagory just for you. We'll update it once a month or so [Last update: 13th January 2009]. If it all looks the same, try refreshing the screen.

And remember, as the financial ads say: "Past performance is not necessarily an indicator of future performance..."
