This is where I tell you what I want to see (In case the title didn't give it away)-my e-zine, my rules. I want to see your best campy horror. It should be one or all of the following, creepy, campy, spooky, campy, funny, campy, gross, campy, pulpy, campy. There is an underlying theme here, in case you hadn't noticed, extra marshmallows to the one who guesses first. If it is not entirely clear, please do not send me anything, deep, or moody, psychological, or profound. And please not full of metaphors. It is my humble opinion that the overuse of metaphors speaks as poorly of your talent as a beggar asking for a handout. See what I mean-metaphors can bite like a rabid dog going after a rabbit-so stop it. I have enough bad metaphors for everyone.
The story can be on any topic you want except one-no Ancient Indian Burial Grounds-I don't care if you won a Stoker, an Oscar, and a Grammy-no exceptions. Vampires-sure, werewolf's, one-armed men with hooks hiding under beds, go for it. But think fun, think campfire stories, think Burgess Meredith's glasses falling off after he alone survives a nuclear war, think aliens wanting to serve man. If after reading your story, I can sit back and go "COOL!" and picture the scene dissolving as the camera pans up into the star filled night sky as the music plays, you might just have a winner. Be original, no fanfic, and nothing that has appeared somewhere else. If you think it can be multiple submitted, it is probably not for here.
Manuscripts should be embedded in the body of an email and sent to Nez1297@aol.com. Please indicate it is a submission for Camp Horror or it will be deleted. I am accepting stories up to 2,000 words; there is no minimum word limit. This is a pro market (Paying . 03 cents a word for first Internet rights for a period of four months), and I expect your work to reflect that. Please edit carefully if you wish to be chosen for one of the two available slots per issue. We publish quarterly, February, May, August, and November. The submission schedule is as follows.
There will be no February issues due mostly to the fact that we are already in February.
Deadline for May is April 18, 2003 Issue one is closed for submissions.
Deadline for August is July 18,2003, Issue two is closed for submissions.
Deadline for November is October 17,2003, Issue three is closed for submissions.
Good luck, I hope to see you around my camp fire.
