HOW IT STARTED OUT:
I had a corpsed out skull just laying around (it was the prop I made at my seminar 'Making Great Stuff with Great Stuff' at the 3rd Annual PA Gathering) and I was wondering what to do with it when I spotted a flower urn sitting in the corner. I remembered that I had an aquarium pump laying around here somewhere...
The fountain by itself wasnt impressive enough, so I decided to add a set of glowing led eyes inserted into some clear eyes, the entire package then looked rather impressive.
MAKING THE CORPSE SKULL
First, to make the corpse skull, take an ordinary skull, and while wearing rubber gloves, pad on 'GREAT STUFF' expanding insulation foam, let dry. You can make lots of great things with 'GREAT STUFF', in the above picture you can see where I made some Alien Eggs and a burned to death corpse.
After the foam has dried, paint the skull with Minwax Gel Stain ( I chose Mahogany ) by dabbing it on.
THE WOODEN BASE
Taking a piece of scrap 2"x4", I needed something to elevate the skull ABOVE the rim of the fountain, I eyeballed it and cut to fit. After that, taking a piece of scrap plywood, I need something to screw both the fountain base and the skull support into.
Then screwing the 2"x4" into the base, I spray painted the whole thing.
PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER
Remove the cranial cut from the skull and screw into the top of the 2"x4" THRU the skull to secure it into place. Place the flower pot on the piece of scrap plywood. Place the LED eyes into the top of the skull and thread the LED eyes thru the eye sockets, inserting them into the clear eyes. Make *SURE* you thread the battery adapter for the LED eyes out the spine hole on the bottom of the skull !!!!!!
KEEPING IT ALL TOGETHER
I used DAP silicone to hold the eyes in place in the eye sockets of the skull, to hold the skull cavity onto the skull, and to hold the flower pot onto the scrap plywood.
WORKING IT
Insert the aquarium pump into the flower pot and run the hose thru the mouth of the skull and trim away any excess. Add food coloring to the water and a TINY bit of dishwasher detergent. (This will cause the top of the water to foam up and hide the pump from view.)
