Starring Nicole Kidman
Simply put, I love this movie. Granted, there are a couple of slow scenes, and it can get just a wee bit hard to follow, but all in all it's a great horror movie. Nicole Kidman plays a mother whose children have some kind of disease that makes them extremely sensitive to light. They are forced to live in this dark, creaky old mansion . . . perfect setting for a ghost story. You can probably figure out the rest . . . voices, apparitions, and poltergeist phenomenon.
Doesn't sound that great? Well, it's the classic ghost story, but it's still a great movie. First movie I've seen in a long time that actually scared me. Creepiness oozes out of every orifice. There is some downright disturbing stuff about this movie, not the least of which is the ending. The story may sound cliché, but The Others delivers, especially when you compare it to the "horror" that's been coming out of Hollywood in recent years. It may not be The Exorcist, but it beats the holy crap out of Scream.
