Lighting Usage
OK, you have a nice, creepy haunt.
And you plan to add a little lighting to make sure that everybody can see the stuff that's
supposed to scare them.
Where do you put the lights?
Basic project
Our haunt is essentially a plain and simple graveyard.
We use
outdoor stake-lights
controlled by
dimmer boxes - to make it just right.
We think that color can really add to the creep factor.
We like greens and blues.
This is a rough drawing of our lighting scheme in the graveyard.
- The first two rows of gravestones have crossed blue and green lamps.
Use of just two lamps avoids the strange look of every tombstone having its own spotlight.
The further you get from a lamp, the dimmer the light - but in the center you get light from two sources,
so it's not as dim as you might think.
Use of two colors gives both variety and mixtures.
- The second row uses the same crossed-lamp approach, but with colors reversed for variety.
- The rightmost part of the last row of tombstones is not particularly illuminated.
One reason is that we don't want too much white light on our Flying Crank Ghost.
Another is that this is a good place to put tombstones that are a bit worn and shouldn't be examined too closely.
- The rear is the
black light
zone.
- The
lightning machines
are installed in two of the open-back pillars.
