I purposely designed the speaker cones to be pointing down, driving the sound downwards and out of the bottom of the enclosure much like a typical subwoofer is constructed. The sound seems to emminate from all directions, at the same time not being apparent in a single location. It may be a trick of the mind... if it doesn't look like a speaker, how could it be making noise?

One more issue before we get started. I've found yet another use for that Halloween Prop Maker's favorite material: extruded foam. This is the same stuff used to make tombstones, walls, false stonework... you name it. My speaker enclosures are made on a plywood base with a built-up, foam lid covered with joint compound.

Now... I chose to do rocks. I think, however, this technique allows room for designing enclosures to look like tree stumps, tombstones, statues, gargoyles, a pile of bones, pumpkins; even a crazed ghoul crawling out of its grave. Whatever.

Throughout these examples, the photos will alternate between both speakers as they're being built.
