The mood and ambiance of your haunt changes radically with dramatic sound tracks in conjunction with well placed, and designed, speaker enclosures. I want to stress, this is far from being a technical exposé on high-end audio design, construction and specifications. This is simply a quick and easy tutorial, showing how to make interesting and properly built speaker enclosures for your front yard or haunt. This tutorial is more about the enclosure than about speakers, per se, but I'm of the opinion that you should buy the best speaker you can. This is a classic, "you get what you pay for", but temper your decision with where the speaker will be located, and what kind of abuse it's likely to subjected to. My music/sound presentation has a lot of deep, resonate sounds that lend themselves to requiring a large, powerful speaker. I choose to use a 10" woofer, rated at 100 watts RMS (200 watts peak) and with a massive magnet (48 oz.). This speaker moves a lot of air as it pulsates and vibrates, and the design of the enclosure addresses those issues. I designed my enclosures to look like large rocks. To tell you the truth, they may look like rocks, but I'd be hard pressed to identify the geologic variety. Of course, I don't think that really matters much... the idea is to make something reasonably believable and something that it blends into the style of my haunt. |
