The top section of the tombstone is three layers thick around the perimeter... making it 3" thick...
while the majority of the upper section is only 2" thick. The curved sections are essentially a frame
for the carving that's to be added later. For the inner, curved piece, I made sure it was sanded smooth prior to gluing into place. Once it's glued down, there's no getting to the inside or outside edges of this profile. All pieces were glued with construction adhesive, and generally held in place until dry with clamps. To keep from compressing the foam when using clamps, I used a sacrificial pad of scrap foam between the tombstone and the clamp's jaws. |
