Tom utilized a very complex descending apparatus- way beyond my capabilities. I fell in love with his gargoyle after visiting his site, and knew I would need to adapt one for my haunt.!!! While Tom uses an air compressor to open and close the wings, and his little fella descends fom above, my guy is a little lazy ! He sits around all day stuck on a thorny arbor. I actually would like him to talk and may venture this way next year.
You can see the hinge at the top of his wing. Pulling taut the fishing line which runs through the inside of the pvc,
makes the wing go up.Gravity makes it go back down. His head is a Bucky head with Crayola Modeling Compound attatched with drywall screws for the nose, ears, and horns. A couple layers of carpet adhesive cover them. His wing claws are made of this too. Three layers of cheesecloth ,attatched to pvc with latex, make up his wings . The spines are pvc pipe cut in 4ths on the table saw.
He is spray painted with red and black, and the Bucky skeleton is stained with Walnut gel stain. His teeth and eyes are handpainted. A coat of epoxy thinned with alcohol give them a shiny finish.
