Mrs. Lamia Ann Lamar
Mrs. Lamar appears in many forms. Trick or Treaters first encounter her as a Flying Crank Ghost. The FCG invented by Doug Ferguson is a great first project. She magically appears to float in mid air, hovering in a ghostly presence.

In Dougs original plans the FCG flying rig is made to hang from the ceiling by bolts. Since my haunt is in my private home and bolting things to the ceiling is not possible I had to come up with a new way to mount the flying unit.
I made a simple frame from PVC pipe and mounted it on wheels for mobility. I placed this set up in front of my large living room picture window, and shrouded the back of the frame with black cloth. This was to contain the blacklight as well as hide her from the people inside of the haunt. Mrs. Lamar was lit both internally and externally. I made my ghost by first sculpting a bust in clay I took thin sheets of gauze and dipped them in white glue.
I draped these over the bust of clay then placed a garbage bag over the whole thing and gathered it at the bottom. I used a vacuum to suck all the air out of the bag to create a sort of shrink wrap around the bust. I let this sit for a few days and then I poked just a few pin holes in the bag and let it sit for a few more days. The plastic bag was removed and I had a pretty good mold of my clay bust. I painted on about 30 more thin layers of a clear varnish to make it nice and hard. When it was hard I cut a slit up the back and dug out all the clay. Now I had a nice translucent bust which I dressed in more gauze and inserted a small white light inside of her so she glowed from within. I pre-soaked her dress in ALL laundry detergent to make it glow in Black light. I made Mrs. Lamars hands from paper mache.
Mrs. Lamar also appeared inside as an apparition in a mirror. I did this effect by replacing a real mirror with mirrored mylar film used to tint car windows. behind this was a plastic inverted skull head that I added a few touches to, such as hair. when this was lit from behind she would appear in the mirror. She would fade in and recite a poem and the disappear. I had the lights behind her rigged through a color organ. The color organ controlled two different colored lights, this made her a little more animated. Unfortunately the color organ blew in rehearsal. All the events in my haunt are controlled by X-10 modules linked to my computer. I performed the entire show from my computer and sound board.
