After Casting the head with Great Stuff (foam insulation in a can) I started to put the mechanics from the Douglass Fir Tree into the head. I had a hard time doing this because the tree's mouth and eyes do not match that of a humans. The first thing I tackled was the eyes. They were way too far apart for that of a human. I had to cut the metal shaft as well as the plastic eyelids about a 1/2" shorter to get the distance I wanted. I put them back together and had to epoxy them back on because I made the shaft too short for them to stay on my themselves. I also did a little re-working of the mouth. I removed the metal spring that returns the mouth to closed position and drilled a new hole in the motor casing a bit further up. The allowed me to turn the entire mouth motor so it would fit in horizontally allowing it to fin inside the head. This took a little brain stress to get accomplished but I was happy with the results.
When I sculpted the mouth area I intentionally made drooping jowls so that I could cut out the mouth. This made a kind of vantrilaquist (sp?) dummy mouth. To close up the gaps where the mouth opend and closed I took a pair of nylons and used a piece to fill in the opening around the mouth and eyelids.
Here is Mr. Simms's head before painting and hair.

I am not sure if I will be getting to his body or not time is running short!!
Here is Mr. Simms almost completed. He still needs a little stuffing and is missing his left hand. I don't have time to make left hand so I will be wrapping it in a bloody rag.
