I had high hopes for this movie. I read the novella by Stephen King again before seeing this movie and agreed with Johnny Depp as casting choice as the main character (Morton Rainey), as well as Maria Bello and John Turturro. The story is about a successfull author who one day while napping on the couch gets a visit from a mysterious stranger pounding on his door by the name of John Shooter (Turturro), who outright accuses Rainey of stealing his story. Of course Rainey makes it clear he wrote the story a whole two years before Shooter claims he wrote it and can prove it by showing him a copy of the orginal magazine that it was published it in. Shooter gives Rainey three days to show him this "proof" and within these three days Morton Rainey will endure the most hellist events in his life on the account of Shooter's actions. The Story has many twists and surprises. Major differences between the novella and the movie. For one, the entire ending was re-written completely, the main character in the story has a cat while in the movie its a dog, the stories are in different names in the movie, and while in the story Rainey lies to the police every chance he gets as he wants to deal with Shooter on his own, while in the movie he is outright scared and desperate and a bit pathetic in way he cries to the police over everything. If the movie had been made like novella it would have been an incredible film that people would have been talking about and could have done well at the box office by word of mouth. I recommend BEFORE seeing this movie to please read the novella "Secret Window, Secret Garden" by Stephen King from his book: " Four Past Midnight" You'll love it if u enjoy a great story.
