The original Chucky movie that spawned it all/ The Film opens with notorious sercial strangler Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) being run down by a cop (Chris Sarandon) who eventually shots him. Knowing his bullet wounds are fatal, Ray breaks into a department toy store desperately looking for a person to transfer his soul into as his body is dying. No one is found and he is near death with the cop catching up he grabs a "Good Guy" doll from a fallen display next to him and proceeds to put his hand apon its chest and performs the voodoo ritual transfering his soul into the body of the plastic childs doll. Charles Lee Ray is beleived to be dead. The hard working broke mother of a 6 yr old Any, who desperately wants a "Good Guy" doll for his birthday, cant afford one at the store and gets a tip from her friend of a homeless person selling one of the dolls behind the store. Knowing she'd never get one in any store in her price range she buys it and brings it home to her thrilled son Any. Later that night Any is being babysat by his mom's best friend and things go horribly wrong. She ends up being thrown from the apartment building window several stories to her death below. Police suspect the boy is disturbed but Andy knows the doll is alive but know one beleives him.....at first. What follows is a creepy and suspensefull classic that did for child's dolls that Psycho surely did for showers. A classic film that is very suspensefull and terrifying, nothing like Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky that would eventually come along taking the series into a comic satire direction. Back when this and part 2 were around it was a genuin horror offering The best in the series along with Child's Play 2. Long before Chucky was all stitched up in the face.

MOVIE FACTS:

Chucky's full name, Charles Lee Ray, is derived from the names of notorious killers Charles Manson, Lee Harvey Oswald, and James Earl Ray.

Don Mancini stated that his original script toyed with the audience a bit longer, making them wonder if young Andy was really the killer rather than Chucky. This idea was used by Kevin Tenney in the movie Pinocchio's Revenge (1996).

The babysitter's death scene originally had her being electrocuted while taking a bath. The scene was used later in Bride of Chucky (1998).
