And Still, I Hunger

The hunger washes, like the blood-dimmed tide, over me again

And the all-too-familiar flame is kindled within my veins

It’s burning need clouds my judgment once again

Until that same, relentless hunger is all that remains

And still, I hunger

She comes to me in all her beauty

Regrettably, her innocence only stokes the fire

Can she not feel it in my touch or see it in my eyes?

No, she could never understand my desire

And still, I hunger

Her hair is silk between my fingers as her body

Melting into mine

Ecstasy, rapture, soft and smooth

And I lose track of time

And still, I hunger

Once more my heart beats again as our lips come to life

I steal her breath with merely a kiss

Odd it seems that in this fiery torment of wanting

Have I never known more bliss

And still, I hunger

Her passion burns, brightly for a time

But all too soon, her flame is spent

But as for me, it’s plain to see

My thirst has gone unquenched

And still, I hunger

Having given all she can,

I still yearn for more

Drained and pale, she lies so still

Sprawled upon the floor

And still, I hunger

As I hear her beating heart,

Pounding loudly in my ear,

I realize that it’s the urgency and not the price

Of my need that I fear

And still, I hunger

Her body and soul she said she’d give me

But that would never be enough

For what she’d give, I could never return

I could never love

And still, I hunger

Night after night, she gave more

Day after day, I took more away

Eventually her rosy cheeks turned waxen white

And her blue eyes were bleached to gray

And still, I hunger

Now as I leave, there are no more tears in her eyes

But still, I’m ashamed for what I’ve done

Because in her eyes, it’s plain to see,

Now she’s also a hungry one

And still, I hunger
