The Martha Washington Inn in Abingdon, Virginia, is more than just a ritzy hotel. It's the home of otherworldly presences. Guests at the hotel often hear the sound of violins from the upper floors. This is supposedly the ghost of a woman named Beth who lived at the hotel during the Civil War. A ghost horse also occasionally tramps around the grounds outside the hotel. Most famously, the hotel houses a bloodstain that cannot be removed. Whenever it is washed away, it mysteriously returns. Legend has it that this is the blood of a Confederate soldier who was sent out on a secret mission. Before he left, he wanted to say good-bye to his girlfriend, but as he was doing so, he was shot dead. The hotel now covers the stain with carpeting.
